Why Naoussa is a must see in Paros
The picturesque and quiet village of Naoussa is one of Greece’s best kept secrets. The town is tucked away in the north eastern corner of the Cyclades island of Paros and with its perfectly warm summers, it is no surprise that this corner has become popular with tourists slowly over the last few decades.
Why Naoussa?
This fishing village oozes tradition and offers you all the quaint beauty you expect from the Cyclades and it doesn’t disappoint. The striking white-washed buildings, keeps bars and restaurants tucked down narrow alleyways. You can sit out on the street side and enjoy cocktails, or you can make your way down towards the marina to watch the sunset in the harbour. There is plenty to do in Naoussa as well, due to the fact it is perfectly situated around some of the best attractions and most picturesque parts of the island. What is there to do here?
From shopping in the local shops – particularly clothing stores and art galleries - to strolling around the marina, the village offers plenty to do for any tourist wishing to take a relaxed approach.
In the old port of Naoussa itself, you can go sea kayaking and sailing, if you fancy finding your sea legs and seeing the Cyclades from a new angle. Or you can relax at the fish foot spa and try something new! Many tourists enjoy braving the break water which is the footpath needed to take to reach the Venetian Fortress, where you can get splashed unearthing the hidden history of this ancient structure.
Between 2-3km away from the village you can find Kokou and Thanasis farms. Both of these farm offer horseback rides, excursions and ‘swimming with horses.’ This is great for animal lovers, adventure lovers and those wishing for an unforgettable, one in a life time experience on their holiday – something the unique island of Paros is perfect for.
Speaking of nature lovers, Paros Park is only a 15 minute drive. This is Paros’ nature reserve which is situated on the most northern point. Explore this peninsula, discover the wildlife and enjoy a hike across the Greek countryside.
However, for the thrill seekers we can also recommend the Aqua Park which is only 5.6km and a 12 minute drive away. This is close to Paros’ top beach called Kolymbithres which is the home of unusual and stunning natural, granite, rock formations. This rocky beach is good for snorkelling as the waters are crystal clear and there are plenty of rock pools to discover.
Where can I eat in Naoussa?
Les Amis – perfect for wine lovers and fine dining. Sit out on the balcony area or sit in the smartly presented interior. This has something for everyone!
Safran – if seafood is your favourite, you must visit Safran – from spectacular octopus to terrific tuna. This restaurant also has traditional Greek dishes such as lamb shank and Greek salads. Everything about this restaurant is beautiful from its perfectly presented food to the classy interior.
Itria – if you’re looking for pizza and cocktails while sitting out on one of the quaint narrow streets of Paros, then Itria is the spot for you! This place has a great atmosphere, music and is always full with friendly people.
Ydroussa – fancy a change? You can get some brilliant Italian food here as well as traditional Greek cuisine. Enjoy what the centre of Naoussa has to offer, while sitting out in the restaurant’s courtyard. Absorb the nightlife and dine under the stars, enjoying everything from pasta to moussaka.
Pastello Ristorante Italiano – another Italian restaurant with a spectacular seafood offering. This restaurant overlooks the harbour, giving you a prime location to watch the sunset and enjoy some fresh seafood. Enjoy a seafood platter in the ocean breeze and see what Paros is all about!
