Ask anyone who lives on Paros when to visit, and you will hear the same answer more often than any other: September. The light turns golden, the sea has had all summer to warm up, the queues disappear, and the island exhales after August. Paros weather in September
September on Paros is still summer, just a gentler version of it.
- Daytime temperatures typically sit around 25–28°C at the start of the month, easing towards 23–25°C by the end.
- Evenings are around 19–21°C — warm enough for dinner outside, cool enough that you might want a light layer by the water.
- Rain is rare. If it comes, it tends to be a short shower in the last week.
- Daylight is shorter than midsummer, with sunset moving from around 7:45 pm at the start of the month to around 7 pm at the end. Golden hour in Naoussa’s port comes conveniently just before dinner.
What about the wind?
The Meltemi — the dry northerly that defines July and August in the Cyclades — starts to lose its grip in September. You may still get a few breezy days, particularly in the first half of the month, but long stretches of calm, glassy sea are common. When it does blow, swim in the sheltered corners of Naoussa bay (Kolymbithres, Monastiri) or on the east coast, and save exposed north-facing beaches for still days. Ferries occasionally run late on windy days, so avoid planning a tight same-day connection to an international flight.
How warm is the sea?
This is September’s trump card. The Aegean warms slowly and peaks late, so sea temperatures of around 24°C are normal — noticeably warmer than in June, and much more inviting for long swims. Snorkelling is at its best, and the water stays comfortable all the way into October.
Crowds and atmosphere
The change happens almost overnight. Around the end of August the families head home for the school year, and the island’s tempo drops a gear.
- Early September (roughly the first ten days) still feels busy and festive, especially at weekends. Think of it as high season with easier parking.
- Mid-September is the sweet spot: warm, lively enough, and relaxed. You can usually get a sunbed at Kolymbithres without a dawn start and a table in Naoussa without booking days ahead.
- Late September is quiet and mellow. A few seasonal beach bars begin to close, but towns remain open and sociable.

The best things to do in Paros in September
Swim everywhere. With warm water and calmer seas, this is the month to beach-hop. Start with the best beaches near Naoussa — Kolymbithres, Monastiri, Santa Maria — then head east to Golden Beach.

Walk the Byzantine Road. The marble-paved path from Lefkes to Prodromos is too hot for most people in August. In September it is a pleasure, particularly in the morning.
Catch the grape harvest. Paros has a long winemaking tradition, and September is harvest time. Local wineries offer tastings, and the island’s own varieties — Monemvasia and Mandilaria — are worth seeking out on restaurant lists.
Eat in Naoussa, unhurried. In August you book and queue. In September you stroll the port, pick the table you like, and stay as long as you want.
